Alliance for an Child-Friendly Environment, Alleanza per un Ambiente a Misura di Bambino (AMBO)

Environmental pollution and climate change, which are strongly connected to each other, threaten the health of current and future generations and require urgent and concrete intervention. The World Health Organization estimates that by 2050, due to malnutrition, diarrhea, malaria, and heat stress, the climate crisis alone will cause 250,000 additional deaths each year, and that children and adolescents in both low- and high-income countries will pay the highest price.

Based on these considerations, AMBO (Alleanza per un Ambiente a Misura di Bambino, Alliance for a Child-Friendly Environment) was created, a non-profit association unprecedented in Italy, whose primary goal is to awaken consciences and act jointly for a healthier and safer future for our children. Twenty-one Societies and Associations in the pediatric and obstetric-gynecological fields have already joined, as well as working groups in neonatology and adolescent medicine and individual experts, with a total membership of over 10,000, mostly pediatricians, gynecologists, and obstetricians, but also professionals from non-healthcare sectors, reflecting a desirable interdisciplinary vision.

AMBO will address crucial topics such as climate change, chemical (with particular focus on endocrine disruptors), light, and electromagnetic pollution, as indicated in Article 1 of the Statute. 

Among the main objectives is the drafting of scientific documents and articles on the above-mentioned topics that jointly involve experts from the various sectors with the aim of improving and continuously updating public awareness among families and the population in general on environmental issues.

Section's Aims and Objectives

AMBO considers it of fundamental importance to have entered into an agreement with the Journal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine (JPNIM), an important international journal which will then become the Official Journal of our Association, joining the numerous Italian and European Scientific Societies in the pediatric area and in pediatric psychology already associated with the journal.  AMBO is confident that this collaboration will foster the dissemination of scientific and regulatory innovations regarding environmental issues, which particularly require statements validated by irrefutable and independent documents.  

We will all work together to increase knowledge about the relationships between the environment and health and to help mitigate the consequences of the planet's pollution and climate change on the health of our children and grandchildren.
